I’ve loved huge cloth ribbons since I saw them on Nail magazines, but the concern has always been “Are they gonna get soiled?”, “Will they get caught in something?”, “Will I need to dry them with a hair dryer everytime I wash my hands/shower?”.
Hence the procrastination, but, I’ve wanted them for so long and so badly, that I’ve decided they are going to be the highlights of my Chinese New Year!
For those from overseas, it is the largest festival celebrated by the Chinese, every year. Red is the primary color in every Chinese New Year, it symbolizes luck and prosperity.
And here are my pretty nails!
My previous set of nails was one of my favorites since it had my favorite color: Gelish Jet set(flatters my skin tone in real life), but I had 5 weeks then before the Chinese New Year, so I had the other set for slightly over 2 weeks and now….
From this… (16 days, studs glued with nail glue only)…
And after removing the set I love, I had to test the Russian nail design stickers again to make sure they stay on well enough, so I did this….
Love love love love it!
Ever since I returned from Perth my body’s been rejecting the horrid air here.
I keep having recurring sinus infection and I can’t get back to 100%, sigh.
Therefore I held off removing what’s left of my poor extensions till now.
Partially also because I hated having short nails but I don’t wanna re-extend my growing nails, so now I’m left with short teeny nails after what’s left of my pretty extensions for Perth(I’m so happy because for the first time, I had ONS acrylic extensions on for 3 whole weeks! *previously they used to fall off entirely after a week, no matter what guru did my nails.):
I also recently got hold of gorgeous, ultra-thin RDcorp stickers, which is perfect for such a time where I don’t have much patience for nail art for myself.
I picked these really cute kittens as they come with these pretty floral garden background.
Aren’t they cute?
Jasz is probably one of the most creative clients I have.
Not only that, she’s also very decisive!
This is the third set of nails I’ve done for her and she’s designed it herself.
Here’s the drafting:
Jasz couldn’t come for her monthly appointment last month because she had a little accident at home and injured herself, so when she came back, here’s how her previous set looked(all intact!):
That’s the good news. The bad news is, she broke 4 out of 5 nails on her right hand because she didn’t shorten them.
So, I extended them!
And when I’m done with that, on goes the color, art and accessories, and viola! Pretty nails!
I absolutely LOVED this set!
Thank you once again Jasz, for the ultra-fun and laughter-filled session. I always enjoyed serving you. This sweetheart brought me some butter cakes she baked as well! They were delicious! Thank you!!!
See you soon babe! Can’t wait till the next set of nails!
If you haven’t heard, Pandora is this jewellery brand taking ladies by storm at Takashimaya! Jasz loved collecting Pandora’s bracelet and charms, and she loved their designs so much, she wanted them on her nails!!!
Jasz is one of the customers I enjoy working on, very patient, very sweet.
She was one of those I did take notice of, because of the amount of “likes” I was notified of, of pictures posted on facebook.
She’s a manicurist’s favored client! Why? Because she does her homework. Heh.
She reads the terms and conditions, transfers deposits promptly, and EVEN DESIGNED HER OWN MANICUREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
She’s so nice she also included her inspirations(ALL PICTURES CREDITED TO PANDORA, NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED, KINDLY LEAVE A COMMENT IF THESE AREN’T ALLOWED AND I’LL REMOVE THEM):
And, to thank her for all the homework she’s done, I did mine too!
Jasz initially wanted only the seashell and the ribbon to be 3D, the rest in freehand nail art.
But when I did the mock-up, I felt they look a little “flat”, so I suggested turning the heart and the seashell into embossed designs. So, I hand sculpted one for her in pearl acrylic powder!!!
And here’s the final piece. Done with Akzentz Luxio, in color, Cremelle! Art done freehanded with AngelPro Gelly polish!
The seashell and embossed starfish looked a little lonely, so I added pebbles to frame the nail! I think these look perfect for her little vacation she’s intending to take in Bangkok! Have a blast there ok?
I am back with a review for you!!!!
Warning: Detailed, possibly long-winded post!
Scroll to the bottom for overall comparison.
It’s actually day 20 for my Pink Overload:Five Petal Flowers set of nails, and whilst trying to pick out my new manicure I remembered that I’ve gotta write a review about this awesome gel polish, so here I am!
Overall I am deeply impressed and very satisfied with how Akzentz Luxio performed on my poor nails(trust me, they do go through hell, alot of hand-washing clothes which means soaking in detergents, they go through lots of acetone and gel cleansers with me when I am working, also when I’m cooking and bathing my dog).
Without further ado, here’s the review:
The first collage I made on my iPhone enables a side-by-side comparison of the first day and the current condition of my nails. The pictures with the Felicious Nails label shows day 1 and the unlabeled shows the current condition.
I’ve added the pictures in its original size so you can compare better and see the actual growth of my nails.
What I want to draw your attention to, is the colors you see!
I tested this set of 3 pinks from Akzentz Luxio so that my friends could get feedback on how they performed. As mentioned in my previous entry, our favorite and most popular Gelish Breast Awareness Set has color fading and changing issues-Make a difference, the darkest pink fades and the other color(I can’t remember which now) tends to change to a peachy color.
This post with the pictures witnessed that Akzentz Luxio doesn’t have color fading or changing issues(I’ve yet to test all 24 of them, but those on my display charts are still the same color).
Not only does the colors stay the same, the topcoat Gloss, does not turn yellowish as well!
Before acquiring Luxio, I went around searching for reviews but never got much. I guess few are familiar with this awesome Canadian brand which excels at their quality gel products. I even read a twitter post by some fashion writer in Singapore(a guy), stating it couldn’t last past a week for him(or was it 9 days?).
Well, you see the results, you be the judge. Clients saw my nails “as-is” when they visit for their appointments. No lifting, no dulling, impeccable shine even when I’ve accidentally filed it when I’m working on clients.
And you see my nails growing! No chipping. Let’s not forget the times when I substituted Akzentz Base for Gelish foundation gel in my Gelish Manicure , which resulted in an almost effortless removal! After soaking, twist and remove, that’s it, there wasn’t much to remove with an orange stick! I’ve also read claims that removal takes longer than Gelish, but I think otherwise. Of course, this depends on how thick you’ve applied!
In short, I’m extremely please and in love with Luxio. The only flaw I can think of? The limited range of colors. Akzentz Luxio makers, if you happen to read this, please make gorgeous pastels and shimmers! I’m sure they’ll be a great hit!
Lastly, I want to say that the nail stickers have done fairly well under Luxio Gloss-none of them came off or threatened to! Only a few of them raised a little, probably due to holes I made while working those nails. Another plus as Gelish’s Top-it-off seems to be a little weak at capping stickers or embellishments?
I shall test the water decals under Akzentz Gloss next time round!
My apologies for the long post, but here’s the overall comparison:
Luxio takes the lead, it is stronger, slightly thicker, does not dry nails out as there’s no solvents in Luxio. No smell, no thickening!
Gelish has the upper-hand for the range it provides with its neons, shimmers, magnetic gel polish and the upcoming pastels.
However, Akzentz pigments are denser and the colors don’t fade/change.
Ease of application:
Gelish is easier to apply as its viscosity is thinner.
Gelish is friendlier on the pocket but Luxio is worth every cent of the investment!
There’s definitely no denying that Gelish is in the lead due to their strong marketing, ease-of-application, variety of colors.
However, I think Luxio is a great investment for salons and clients as it is the perfect choice for times when your nails are thinner, weaker and dried out from solvents.
I would recommend two sets of Luxio after every 3-4 sets of Gelish, but that number would definitely increase when Luxio comes out with more attractive colors.
I hope my review helped nail technicians around the world make a choice when they’re considering Luxio (sadly I had to take the plunge and try it out myself, as there wasn’t much of any review clear enough to recommend Luxio), and also clients looking for something to wear continuously without harm to the natural nails.
Till next time when I review about the water decals with Akzentz Luxio Gloss! ❤
Thanks for reading!
Warning: Picture Heavy Post!
Introducing Akzentz Luxio…
The 100% gel polish!!!! No solvents=healthy nails! No more drying of the nail bed!
I currently have 24 colors. That’s all that’s available in Singapore now, looking forward to the Spring colors that are launching in March.
Pardon me for the many pictures. I own an IPhone 4, not the 4S, and I don’t have a digital camera, so bear with me for the pictures-I just want you to have a clearer view of the swatches. The fabulous nudes, gorgeous pinks, reds, purple and one shimmer blue. I was awed repeatedly while swatching!
Great news for those with weak, dry nails, Luxio is100% gel, the perfect match for nails that need recovering from dryness/weakness!
I’m currently wearing Vixen, a deep vampiry purple! And i’m loving the shine! Luxio has much higher shine than Gelish I would say!
These 24 colors will be available for HOUSE-CALL SERVICES ONLY! Sorry! Exclusive for now!
Luxio will be available for services at Ying’s place, at $65-single color manicure(no promotional rate of $50). Colors to be pre-selected I will only bring the color you need.)
I’m testing the polish but I am sure it will perform very well as Akzentz is known for high quality gel products! (My manicurist in a quality salon I used to visit before I was a nail technician myself, used the full range of Akzentz color and traditional gel, I had very lasting extensions then because of Akzentz.)
Why would you need Luxio?
Gelish and other gel polishes contain solvents which may dry nail up with frequent continued wear. This is where Luxio comes in, you can wear Luxio once every few months in place of Gelish to prevent nails from drying out!
Want to give the luxurious Akzentz Luxio a try? It’s $60 a set, promotional price at $50.
Notice on Price: Cost of Luxio is much higher than Gelish. The top and base coat is about 2X the price of Gelish’s, color coat costs more too. Unfortunately I am unable to use this with Gelish base and top coat as it defeats the aim of using a 100% gel polish-the full system is stronger, hence the ability to protect.)
Besides the cost, the application requires more effort and an increased level of skill as it isn’t the same viscosity as Gelish.
*Enquiry of discounts will not be entertained. Nail p***** chain charges Gelish at $121, removal at $25. Please feel free to visit them if you feel more comfortable with the setting and price.
I am so glad I am able to attend the Beauty Asia trade show with my mentor Ying and fellow nail enthusiast Shona!
The first day of the trade show I got these:
Then I left and couldn’t soon stop thinking about the Gelish 18g as it was at an irresistible price. I convinced my sweet boyfriend to loan me the money for the items I deemed “compulsory” to buy and promised to be on a spending ban from today onwards.
And here’s my loots:
After spending that much, i definitely had to think of how to fill in the deep hole I dug.
So here are some items i’d like to put on sale-I really need to start earning back to repay the bank loan, pretty please?
Item 1: “Better” 12W LED lamp $80
Item 2: Artistic Color Gloss 30W LED lamp $400
Original price $450 from supplier
Less than 3 months old
Same built as Gelish 6g LED lamp except in gorgeous black shimmer
Cure time is 10, 20 and 30 seconds also with sensor.
Great for someone who wants a professional lamp.
Both items are self-collect only unless you want to pay extra for shipping a bulky item. No negotiation please, need the money for loan repayment. Thank you for your understanding.
